San Diego in 5 Scenes
Downtown SD images from the first test roll I ran through my recently-acquired Nikon FM. Looks like a good camera. Also, it was my first time ever shooting the venerable original Tri-X filmstock, which is unfortunately no longer available (replaced with a newer version containing approximately 20% less silver). Arrgh.

Thanksgiving Photos
Just that. Photographs I took last month while visiting Austin. Also included are the Charles pics from his visit to San Diego a couple weeks ago. Enjoy.

Lookin' Bad, Soundin' Worse
Check out Charles's latest album in the projects section of this site. Yet another fine Studio171 release and a neuromatix.net exclusive!

Wood vs Formica
At Kodak's Cinematography website, there's a nice interview with Steve Sabol, president of NFL Films, on why he insists that games continue to be shot on 16mm motion picture stock even in the Digital Video Age.

Queueing for Apples
If I ever open a movie revival house or an übercool coffeeshop, this is the kind of business I'd like to see on the first day (!).

Empty
He was here for a week, now he's gone and I have the apartment back to myself. Which, for a serious introvert like myself is probably a good thing. But damn - the place feels so empty, so lonely in the aftermath. I can hear the air whispering through my ears, my heart, and time itself.
I am suffering from Charles withdrawal.

Huh?
Nor is the fact that Hollywood's belief in its own heroism derives from a moment of colossal Hollywood cowardice any obstacle.
"The Crucible of Hollywood's Guilt: Elia Kazan (1909-2003)"
Atlantic Monthly, Dec. 2003
Ugh! I can't believe the editors at the Atlantic let this one slip. Allow me the pleasure of a rewrite:
Nor is it any obstacle that Hollywood's self-righteous heroism derives from its own colossal cowardice.
Ah, much better. Amazing what a 30% reduction of words and a slight grammatical rearrangement buys in the clarity department. Clearly, the Atlantic should hire me as their Literary Editor. Clearly.
